Montvale, NJ, Jan 14, 2003 - SYS-CON Media, the world's leading publisher exclusively serving i-technology markets, announced today a major expansion of the Editorial Advisory Board of BEA WebLogic Developer's Journal (WLDJ), the only magazine dedicated to the BEA WebLogic Enterprise PlatformTM. BEA WebLogic Developer's Journal has just entered its second year of publication and is the only print magazine in the world written exclusively by and for the international community of developers, architects, and IT professionals who are designing, developing and deploying applications on the market-leading BEA WebLogic Enterprise Platform.

The new expanded board is chartered with ensuring that WLDJ continues to provide information vital to the needs of the WebLogic developer community worldwide, a market which has grown 40 percent in the last year, by providing technical articles that explore the power and extensibility of the WebLogic platform. The Advisory Board members bring to WLDJ a diverse set of experiences and viewpoints -- from the hardware manufacturer, to the systems integrator, to the development tools provider, and more. Board members come from industry-leading companies that are currently developing and deploying enterprise technologies for the world's leading application server infrastructure, and each is a respected name in their category.

The expanded WLDJ Board includes Shaun R. Connolly, Director of Worldwide Developer Programs, Hewlett-Packard; Lewis Cirne, founder and CTO, Wily Technology; Kevin Jones, director of the Java curriculum, DevelopMentor; Stuart Halloway, CTO of DevelopMentor; Blake Stone, chief scientist, Borland; Wayne Lesley Lund, senior technical manager at Accenture. These selected new board members join Jason Westra, editor-in-chief of WLDJ; Sean Rhody, editor-in-chief of Web Services Journal and a partner with Computer Sciences Corporation; and Tyler Jewell, director of technical evangelism at BEA Systems.

"Our ability to attract an editorial advisory board of such technically astute professionals, representing some of the world's leading technology companies, demonstrates the vital role BEA WebLogic and BEA WebLogic Developer's Journal plays in the development, deployment, and management of increasingly sophisticated Web-based enterprise applications," said Miles Silverman, VP of Marketing for SYS-CON Media.

"We are thrilled to see so many WebLogic industry leaders join the WLDJ Board," said Diana Reid, senior director of developer marketing for BEA Systems. "WebLogic Developer's Journal is an invaluable resource for developers, and having such an experienced and diverse set of technology experts involved with the magazine speaks volumes for SYS-CON's commitment to the meeting the diverse needs of the global WebLogic developer community."

The new expanded Board will meet quarterly. Further information on WLDJ and the current editorial calendar is available online at www.sys-con.com/weblogic.

Additionally, Cirne is responsible for sharing with customers and partners the company's vision of bringing enterprise class performance management to the Java platform. Prior to founding Wily, Lewis held senior technical positions at Apple Computer and Hummingbird Communications. He holds several additional patents and a bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College.

Shaun R. Connolly is the director of Worldwide Developer Programs for the Software Global Business Unit of Hewlett-Packard. Shaun was previously Director of Product Management and led the product strategy and direction at Hewlett-Packard's Middleware Division.

Stuart Halloway is the chief technical officer at DevelopMentor, a developer services company that specializes in training programmers in .NET, Java, Web Services, C++, and COM. Stuart is the author of Component Development for the Java Platform, part of the DevelopMentor book series. He received his B.S. and M.P.P. from Duke University.

Tyler Jewell is director of worldwide education development and technical evangelism at BEA Systems. He oversees BEA's technology evangelism efforts, which are focused on driving early adoption of strategic BEA technologies into the ISV and developer community. He is also a technologist with expertise in Web services, large-scale system design, and application infrastructures. Mr. Jewell is the author of four developer books and sits on the editorial boards of WebLogic Developer's Journal, Web Services Journal, O'Reilly, theserverside.com, and maintains a regular column at dev2dev.bea.com. He holds a bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.

Kevin Jones, director of the Java curriculum at DevelopMentor, has been involved in software development for 16 years, originally as a mainframe programmer, then working with Windows 1.04 and Windows 32 since the first beta release in July 1992. He has focused primarily on Java in recent years, writing and delivering hands-on courses on J2EE technologies such as servlets, Java Server Pages and EJB, and has written numerous magazine articles.

Wayne Lesley Lund is a senior technical manager within Accenture, specializing in enterprise Java solutions. In his role as chief architect and technical lead for numerous large corporations he has been involved in the development and deployment of every version of WebLogic since WebLogic 3.4. He coauthored and edited the Component Solutions Handbook e-Book used within Accenture for best practices on distributed architecture patterns and most recently was involved in the creation of enterprise reference architectures built on the unification of J2EE, Portal, and EAI. Before the days of Java he was involved in object-oriented technologies including C++, Smalltalk and Objective-C. Wayne has extensive experience with OODBMs including ObjectStore, Versant and Gemstone, and extensive CORBA experience with Smalltalk and C++ in the telco world.

Sean Rhody is the editor-in-chief of Web Services Journal, and a respected industry commentator and speaker. Sean is also a partner with Computer Sciences Corporation, where he works as the Web services advocate for the Consulting Group. Sean has recently coauthored his latest book, Beginning Java Web Services (Wrox).

Blake Stone, chief scientist at Borland, has been an outspoken advocate of great technology for each of his 25 years as a software developer -- including several years as architect of Borland JBuilder, the number one Java development environment. As chief scientist at Borland his multi-platform background and keen insights into industry trends are now focused on the task of solving complex development problems for a diverse customer base. Blake's infectious enthusiasm is evident in his books, articles, and presentations ranging from in-depth technical sessions to keynotes.

Jason Westra is the editor-in-chief of WebLogic Developer's Journal. He has extensive experience with the BEA WebLogic Server Platform and was a columnist for Java Developers Journal for two years, where he shared his WebLogic experiences with readers.
