(Montvale, NJ, August 18, 2003) - SYS-CON Media the world's leading i-technology publisher, today announced the promotion of editorial director Jeremy Geelan to group publisher, effective immediately. Also today, Java Developer's Journal editor-in-chief Alan Williamson was named technical director in charge of all of SYS-CON's i-technology titles.
Geelan's mission in this new capacity will be to continue developing innovative new titles and technology portals as SYS-CON Media enters its tenth successive year of growth. He will also explore and execute overseas copublication programs involving SYS-CON's market-leading brands such as Java Developer's Journal, LinuxWorld Magazine, .NET Developer's Journal, XML-Journal, Web Services Journal, and Wireless Business & Technology.
Jeremy Geelan joined SYS-CON Media in early 2000, and assumed the responsibilities of editorial director later that year. Prior to joining SYS-CON Media, Geelan spent 22 years in the international publishing and broadcasting industries, including long spells with both BBC Radio and BBC Television in London, followed by a 10-year association with the Greenwood Publishing Group in Westport, CT. Most recently, he devoted himself to chairing The 21st Century Group, a loose federation of forward-looking companies devoted to exploring alternative social, economic, political, and educational futures. Prior to that, he was joint managing director of The Vision Project, in London, and editorial director of Adamantine Press, in Copenhagen. He launched his very first magazine while still at Cambridge University, at the age of 20.
"Jeremy's breadth of experience in dealing with software professionals at the most senior levels of the i-technology industry makes him the perfect executive for this strategic position in our organization," said Fuat Kircaali, founder and CEO of SYS-CON Media. "He not only understands the industry's critical issues, but regularly represents SYS-CON at conferences and tradeshows, speaking to technology audiences both in North America and overseas. He has been an integral decision maker in every new launch since 2000 and each of our own i-technology conferences and expos. We are delighted that he will now be a torchbearer for SYS-CON's next aggressive wave of expansion and growth."
One of Geelan's first priorities will be to orchestrate the upcoming September launches of two new magazines devoted to the cluster of leading-edge Web-based technologies developed, marketed, and distributed worldwide by two software powerhouses.
SYS-CON Media introduced LinuxWorld Magazine at LinuxWorld Conference & Expo in San Francisco, and it will hit worldwide newsstands today.
Alan Williamson Named Technical Director
As SYS-CON Media gets ready for a very busy Fall 2003 season, with significant new magazine launches, in its tenth consecutive year of growth, the company today also announced the promotion of Alan Williamson to the newly created position of technical director.
Alan Williamson joined SYS-CON as a contributing writer with the premier issue of Java Developer's Journal in 1996 (http://sys-con.com/java/archives.cfm). In 2000, he was appointed editor-in-chief of JDJ. Under his editorial direction, Java Developer's Journal was named "the most trusted developer magazine in the world" two years in a row. Most recently Williamson assumed the role of founding editor of LinuxWorld Magazine, and his team delivered a spectacular premier issue of this new publication. Williamson's monthly column in JDJ has been one of the most highly regarded industry opinion pieces in the past eight years. In his new role as technical director, Williamson will oversee the editorial content of SYS-CON's 12 leading monthly magazines, of which two will be launched in September 2003.
